Mission

The Matilda Flow Inclusion Foundation (MFI Foundation) is a community-based, non-profit, non-governmental organization located near Amasaman Fise in Greater Accra, Ghana. Our mission is to create inclusive work and job training opportunities for artisans who are women, persons with disabilities, and parents of children with disabilities to support their own needs and those of their families. Many artisans in our community have been put out-of-work by used clothing sent to Ghana from the United States and Europe. At the MFI Foundation Tie-and-Dye House, artisans learn to transform used clothing into clothes, bags, and accessories for sale locally and globally through upcycling, sewing, tie-dye techniques, yarn-making, crocheting, and bead-making. All proceeds from the sale of our products directly support the MFI Foundation’s programs to employ and train more artisans to upcycle textile waste.

Founder & Managing Director

“In 2016, we did research and saw that a lot of mothers of children with disabilities were stuck in their homes. They could not leave their children indoors and go to work. Aside that, a lot of persons with disabilities also are not being employed in Ghana. We saw the need and founded this organization. We started with seamstressing, tie-and-dye making, fabric bead-making, and a whole lot. We train people how to tie-and-dye, how to sew, how to make beads with fabrics.” - Matilda Lartey

In this quote, Matilda Lartey, fashion designer, artisan, and entrepreneur shares what inspired her to found the MFI Foundation.
